Fritz Aquatics Maracyn is a broad-spectrum antibiotic (erythromycin) specifically formulated to treat and control common bacterial infections in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. Known for its safety and effectiveness, it is a go-to treatment for hobbyists dealing with visible external infections.

Key Benefits

  • Targets Gram-Positive Bacteria: Highly effective against pathogenic organisms responsible for diseases such as body fungus (Columnaris), gill disease, and popeye.

  • Broad Symptom Relief: Provides relief for fish exhibiting clamped fins, swollen eyes, heavy or rapid breathing, patchy coloration, or unusual hiding behavior.

  • Safe for Inhabitants: It is non-toxic to invertebrates (snails and shrimp) and safe for live plants when used as directed.

  • Gradual Dissolution: Developed for complete but gradual dissolution in water to ensure a steady and thorough treatment for infected fish.

  • Treatment Compatibility: Can be used safely alongside other Fritz Aquatics medications like Maracyn Two, Maracyn Oxy, or Coppersafe for more comprehensive care.

When to Use

  • Visible Infections: When you notice white "cotton-like" patches on the body or mouth, or frayed fins.

  • New Fish Quarantine: Often used as part of a "medication trio" to ensure new arrivals are free of bacterial pathogens before entering a main display tank.

Dosing Instructions

  • Standard Dose: Add one pre-measured packet per 10 gallons (38L) of water.

  • Course of Treatment: Repeat the dose every 24 hours for 5 days.

  • Important Note: Always complete the full 5-day course even if symptoms appear to vanish early to prevent antibiotic resistance.

Pro Tip: It is highly recommended to increase tank aeration with an air stone during treatment, as some medications can decrease oxygen levels or cause temporary surface foaming.
